You need a financial plan that demonstrates you have enough to live securely and, when possible, abundantly.
You need to know when the old race has done its job. Enough success means you have reached the milestones that matter.
You need to be retiring to something, not merely from something. Purpose gives shape to freedom.
The journey from anxiety to purpose often moves through five stages.
Choose your current stage
Rate yourself honestly on each domain. 1 = Needs significant work, 10 = Fully optimized
Purpose often emerges at the intersection of your Story, your Gifts, and your Relationships.
These questions surface what you may already know but have not yet articulated.
Purpose compounds when the good you do grows in magnitude, reach, and duration.
List five to seven ways you could invest your time, talent, treasure, wisdom, or influence.
The same intensity that built your career can build something that outlasts it.
Bring together everything you have discovered. Write honestly. You can refine it over time.
Purpose is discovered through action, not contemplation alone.
Peace must precede purpose. But once peace is established, purpose is waiting. The best is yet to come.
The client stories and examples throughout this book are composites — amalgamations drawn from the author's work with many individuals and families over more than two decades. They are presented for educational and illustrative purposes only. They do not depict any specific client, and they are not representative of any particular person's experience or results. Names, occupations, and other identifying details have been changed, combined, or created for illustrative purposes, and any resemblance to a specific individual is coincidental.
The client stories, scenarios, and examples used throughout this book are educational illustrations intended to explain financial planning, investment, retirement, tax, estate, risk management, and charitable giving concepts. They are not actual client experiences, testimonials, endorsements, or recommendations. They should not be interpreted as representative of the experience of any client or as a promise, prediction, or indication of future results. Individual outcomes vary significantly based on personal circumstances, financial resources, market conditions, tax laws, objectives, risk tolerance, time horizons, health considerations, and numerous other factors.
Examples, calculations, projections, spending illustrations, income assumptions, withdrawal examples, tax discussions, charitable planning strategies, portfolio structures, and other numerical figures presented in this book are hypothetical and provided solely for educational and explanatory purposes. They are designed to demonstrate planning concepts and should not be relied upon when making investment, tax, legal, retirement, estate planning, or financial decisions. Hypothetical examples do not reflect actual client results and are not guarantees of future performance or outcomes. Tax results and planning outcomes vary based on individual circumstances and changes in applicable law.
